January 17, 2023

Exactly one year ago today, Ruth Hartung (Sraddha) passed away. Our lives have been irrevocably changed and we are just beginning to be present to what exactly this means for each one of us. While we are still in the midst of deep grief at losing her and her beautiful community gathering space 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona, we take solace in knowing that she is in a more peaceful place and that her presence and life’s work touched so many. Those who attended her trainings, immersions, courses and workshops, the kirtans and concerts, sat at her dinner table, gardened or cooked or hiked or drank tea and laughed with her over the years. We do hope to help carry forth some aspect of what she created but frankly it is too soon for this.

Sunday Memorial Schedule
4:00-5:30pm: Memorial Service (Pavilion)

At the end of the memorial, we will then all proceed together over to the HUB…

5:30-7:00pm: Community Reception, Slide show, light refreshments served (HUB)

Please come prepared for the heat!  Bring an umbrella if you want!  The HUB is air conditioned.

A Note on Recording
To help maintain a safe and sacred space for family and friends who may be grieving, we are going to refrain from livestreaming or recording the Memorial Service as originally intended. The service will be documented via photographs for those who are unable to travel to Sedona. You may request a link ([email protected]) to view the pictures and slide show, shortly after the weekend. If you would like to participate from afar, all are invited to set aside the time of the Puja or the time of the Memorial Service for private ceremony, reflection, prayer, meditation, lovingkindness practice, or other spiritual expression to connect with the sangha in Sedona. We will honor your presence and be reminded that Sraddha’s love is being felt in lands near and far. Through the merit of our collective practice, we will seed a new and emerging reality that the spirit of Sraddha’s teachings are alive and well, spreading goodness and peace around the world, even when we are unable to be together in Sedona.

Please check this website for additional updates and any schedule changes.

Dear friends,

As we prepare for Ruth (Sraddha) Hartung’s Memorial Weekend this May, we invite you to contribute photos and memories that may uplift family and friends, and offer a pathway to collective healing for the entire 7 Centers community.

If you have photos of Sraddha that you would like to share, please send them, together with any comments or stories, to [email protected].

(Be aware that some email programs won’t allow you to send a file that is larger than 10 mb so you may have to break up your photos into more than one email.)

Sraddha’s immediate family will receive all offerings submitted, and some photos or written reflections may be shared at the Memorial Service or on the 7 Centers website as a way to connect and inspire our extended 7 Centers family.

For those of you who have not already done so, please be sure to RSVP here if you plan to attend the Celebration of Life & Memorial Service!  It’s important that we get confirmations for the individual yoga classes, the Puja, and the service and reception.  Thanks!

With gratitude,

Sydney

January 19, 2022

Dear friends,

The following message has been shared with love from the family of Sraddhasagar:

Surrounded by her family and countless expressions of love that reverberate throughout the universe, Ruth Adeline Hartung has died, leaving her physical form as the wolf moon became fully illuminated on the evening of January 17, 2022.

In her final months, Ruth wished to hold her experience with metastatic breast cancer privately, embracing the internal journey as a natural extension of her rich spiritual life and practice. She held the 7 Centers community in her heart throughout the transformational process and deeply appreciated the ability to navigate her death in the same way that she lived—on her own terms, with insightful wisdom, fierce independence, impossible strength, and gentle loving presence. Today, we remember Ruth, our teacher, mentor, and friend.

A memorial service will take place in Sedona in late April or early May; dates and details will be shared in the coming weeks. So that all may participate regardless of location, the service will be made available via livestream video. We hope you will join us to celebrate Ruth’s life and legacy.

Known to her students as Sraddhasagar—Sanskrit for “Ocean of Faith”—Ruth embodied the principles and practices of Samkhyayoga, and introduced thousands of students to the deeper dimensions and responsibilities of the yogic path. Her own yoga journey began in 1991, and since 2001 “Sraddha” has attracted students from around the world to her humble refuge nestled in the red rocks of Sedona, Arizona. If you are receiving this email, you likely experienced the magic of her most magnificent creation—7 Centers Yoga Arts—and her abiding dedication to helping people realize their true nature.

For those who may have immediate questions about the future of 7 Centers Yoga Arts, we ask for your patience. The blissful memories remain fully alive in our hearts, but we humbly request some time to adjust, and ask you to join us as we pause, breathe, and reflect before making any decisions or announcements. Until then, please care for each other and know that the 7 Centers family is bonded forever. Rest in the knowledge that we each represent a living, breathing, evolving expression of what we learned under the expert guidance of our extraordinary teacher.

We will be back in touch in a few weeks with further information about the memorial. Until then, please join us as we privately honor Ruth, our Ocean of Faith.

Om shanti, shanti, shanti.
