The Adventures of Lionheart, Temple Cat

"Whenever you accept what is, something deeper emerges than what is. So, you can be trapped in the most painful dilemma, external or internal, the most painful feelings or situation, and the moment you accept what is, you go beyond it. You transcend it. Even if you feel hatred, the moment you accept that this is what you feel, you transcend it. It may still be there, but suddenly you are at a deeper place where it doesn't matter that much anymore.
We cannot get rid of polarities on the level of form. However, you can transcend the polarities through Surrender. You are then in touch with a deeper place within yourself where, as it were, the polarities no longer exist. They continue to exist on the outer level. However, even there, something changes in the way in which the polarities manifest in your life when you are in a state of acceptance or Surrender. The polarities manifest in a more benign and gentle way. Internal and external are ultimately one. When you no longer perceive the world as hostile, there is no more fear, and when there is no more fear, you think, speak and act differently. Love and compassion arise, and they affect the world. Even if you find yourself in a conflict situation, there is an outflow of peace into the polarities. So then, something does change. There are some teachers or teachings that say, nothing changes. That is not the case. Something very important does change. That which is beyond form shines through the form, the eternal shines through the form into this world of form."

Ayurvedic Health Alter
Ayurveda is the world’s oldest system of medicine. It is truly holistic because it incorporates the mind, body, and Spirit in healing. Eating well, proper exercise, and sound sleep help maintain a healthy body and mind. What can we do to address the spiritual? Creating a simple “health alter” at home allows us to manifest the perfect health that we desire.
The concept for this health alter comes from Robin and Michael Mastro’s book, Alters of Power and Grace. It employs the principals of Vastu Shastra, Vedic architectural design. Vastu is a sister science of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Jyotish Astrology. The Vastu health alter is specifically designed to create personal harmony with the universe. By praying at our alter for a few moments every morning, we strongly realign with the forces of nature. We thereby attract good health, as well as alleviate karmic health problems that can not be solved by medicine alone.
Step 1 – Create a sacred space along the East wall. Cover a table with a white or golden colored cloth. (Any gold placed on the alter represents the Sun, giver of vibrant health.)
Place the following items in their respective directions:
Step 2 – NOTHEAST corner –WATER element.
At night fill a small copper vessel with fresh drinking water. After morning prayers this can be used as holy water to drink or sprinkle. Copper charged water helps with digestion and assimilation.
Step 3 - SOUTHEAST corner – FIRE element.
In a small metal dish place a ghee lamp (hand rolled cotton wick soaked in ghee). This can be lit each time we stand at the alter to pray. Ghee attracts sattvic (pure) frequencies from heaven.
Step 4 – SOUTHWEST corner – EARTH element.
Place a small potted plant of Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil (Ocimum Sanctum). In Ayurveda Tulsi is renowned for its adaptogenic ability to help the body and mind to cope with stress. The sacred Tulsi plant also purifies the home environment.
Step 5 – NORTHWEST corner –AIR element.
Burning a Sandalwood incense stick calms the Vata tension in the mind, as it wafts through the air. It enhances peace and tranquility of thought. Another possibility is placing a bell, whose sound waves ring through the air, focusing the mind and dispelling any negative forces.
Step 6 – CENTER – SPACE element.
Keep this space open except for a small offering tray. On it place simply written health intentions / affirmations.
If one is so inclined, chant the “Maha Mrityunjay Mantra” daily. This simple 4 lined chant to Lord Shiva is known to heal all physical and emotional ailments.
The above items are just suggestions to put in the elemental locations. Be creative and choose personal symbols, pictures, or religious items that are meaningful to you, and evoke the feelings of vibrant health.
Foods, herbs, supplements, and even prescription medicines can be placed on the alter during prayer. Their healing abilities will be magnified.
Giving your alter attention will unfold in many blessings. This alter can be activated daily to bring real healing to oneself, family members, friends and even our Mother Earth.
To purchase items mentioned in this article, please contact Avani Sukhadia Robinson of Authentic Ayurveda of Sedona. (928) 284-1114 www.ayurveda-sedona.com

Vedic Astrology
Venus Retrograde in August
Venus, the planet of love and relationships, is retrograde during the entire month of August. To be more exact, its retrograde period began on July 27, 2007, and will end on September 8, 2007. As Venus goes retrograde about every 18 months, for about 6 weeks, (less often than any other planet), this is a significant astrological event.
So what areas of life does the planet Venus affect? Venus rules romance, relationships, marriage, pleasures, the feminine nature, and social interactions in general.
The Venus retrograde period can be a good time to reflect and meditate on any relationship issues that need healing and forgiving. It would be appropriate to consciously review how you treat others (family members, friends, or romantic partners), and with this deeper awareness and knowledge, be a better friend to all. This can also be a time when a past love resurfaces in your life, for the purpose to again understand and complete any unfinished lessons around love. This would not be the best period for getting married, but it is auspicious for re-evaluating our existing relationships and re-defining our values.
This retrograde period may take you deeper into your feeling nature and allow more contact with your spiritual self as well. The main focus though is your relationship with yourself, and with spirit. So this is a good time to focus on your own nurturing and being kind to yourself. Venus retrograde periods can give great potential for deep emotional healing and growth in your partnership to the divine!
Debra Infante, Vedic astrologer, can be reached at (928) 639-0623 for astrological consultations, either in person or by phone.
